P&ID data extraction to Excel

A P&ID carries an equipment list, a line list, an instrument index and a valve list — all drawn rather than tabulated. AxioExtract reads the sheet into those four tables so they can be reviewed against the drawing and exported as spreadsheet rows.

What comes back from a P&ID

Equipment

Vessels, pumps, exchangers and packages with their tags, descriptions and printed duty or specification data.

Lines

Line numbers with size, service, specification and connectivity as printed — the basis of a line list.

Instruments

Instrument tags with type and service, kept in tag order so the result reads as an instrument index.

Valves

Valve tags, types and sizes, separated from instrumentation so procurement and control scopes are not mixed.

Notes

Sheet notes, hold markers and legend references transcribed as text.

Why P&IDs use a frontier vision model

Process diagrams depend on spatial relationships: which instrument sits on which line, which valve belongs to which loop, and which tag applies to which piece of equipment. Cheap models read the characters but lose those relationships, so P&IDs are routed to a frontier vision model. That is reflected in the rate of 8 credits per page. Invoices and plain tables use a much cheaper chain — see supported formats for every rate.

Large sheets are read in tiles with a coordinate grid overlaid, which keeps dense tag clusters legible instead of averaging them into one unreadable page.

Reviewing a P&ID read

Selecting a row highlights where that value appears on the drawing, so an instrument index of several hundred tags can be checked without hunting across the sheet. Low-confidence readings are flagged, and any region can be boxed and re-read. Export happens after review, to Excel, Google Sheets, JSON or XML.

Common questions

Can instrument tags be extracted from a P&ID automatically?

Yes. A P&ID read returns instruments with their tag numbers and service, equipment, lines and valves, each of which can be checked against the highlighted region on the drawing before export.

Does it produce a line list?

Yes. Lines are returned as their own table so the result can be exported as a line list rather than a flat block of text.

What does a P&ID extraction cost?

P&IDs and process diagrams are charged at 8 credits per page, reflecting the frontier vision model used for complex spatial drawings.
